Tips on Painting Ceilings

A fresh coat of ceiling paint can instantly lift the appeal of a room. So few of us consider painting our ceilings as it can be viewed as quite a difficult project but that is actually not true. Painting ceilings is easy - you'll just need to know how to do it and have the correct paint for the job.

Before you start the project you'll need to select your colour, the paint you'd like to use, find out how much of it you'll need to buy and make sure you have all the accessories you'll need for the task at hand.

The easiest way to go about painting your ceiling is to remove all of the furniture from the room, place a drop sheet over the floor as well as any of the objects you couldn't remove and to ensure that it's the first surface you paint rather than the last in any particular room.

The golden rule when it comes any to painting is that preparing your surfaces properly will lead to an excellent finish at the completion of the project.

If you're not too sure on how to prepare your ceiling for paint please visit our Paint School which sports all the info you'll need to know.

A stepladder with a little section designed to hold a paint tray is going to be your best friend during this project - so be sure to get a stable one. A roller is the best option when painting a ceiling but you can also use a brush if you wish to - just make sure it is quite wide otherwise you may be up on that ladder for longer than expected. Paint from left to right (or vice versa if you are left handed) in a single strip across the ceiling and do not stretch, ever! You can use a smaller brush to get into the corners.

Allow the first coat to dry properly before you start the process again or ensure that you buy a one coat product to ensure that the first time is the only time.

Once you've completed the ceiling you can begin painting the walls - your rejuvenated living space will be ready to enjoy in no time.
