The festive season tends to be quite a crazy time of year. With all the shopping, parties and gatherings on the go, it can be quite stressful to also consider welcoming guests into your home. But no matter how stressful it is - it's a reality.
You may look around your home and feel an escalated sense of panic as their arrival date draws near, but there are a few really easy DIY projects you can quickly complete around the house. By following these tips your home will be in tip top shape and will be more than ready to welcome family and friends.
Paint School: Before you start any of your DIY jobs, why not spend a moment browsing the range of tips, trends and tools you will need in order to ensure that your project not only runs smoothly but stands the test of time. Remember that all Medal Paint products come with a full set of instructions, so be sure to read them before you start your job.
Doors: Our home's doors tend to take a beating over time, especially the exterior ones, but restoring them is so easy. Sanding down and varnishing your doors is a relatively easy project that won't take much time, but the effect will be quite dramatic. Many of our wood varnishes also boast UV resistance which will ensure that you won't have to revarnish your doors again for quite some time.
Exterior Walls: A fresh coat of paint on the exterior walls of your home will give it an instant facelift. If you don't have time to repaint everything why not try just the garden walls or even easier, give the surfaces a good clean - you'll be amazed at how much dirt will have accumulated.
Planters: A great way to rejuvenate your outdoor space it to repaint your planters. Don't be afraid to add colour - it just may be the breath of fresh air that you needed all along. We produce a range of paint products that are suitable to use outdoors.
Window Frames: You will be amazed at the difference freshly varnished or painted window frames can make! Your windows will become a focal point rather than an eyesore once you have spent some time on the frames. Once you have completed this project remember to give the windows a good clean.
Skirting boards: Another area of the home that tends to take quite a knock, revamping your skirting boards will make a subtle but effective difference to the look of your home. If they are in quite a bad state they will need to be stripped and varnished or repainted. If however they are just looking a little shabby due to scuff marks, a good clean should have them looking great in no time.
Tiles: Using tiles on the walls, floors, outside and in the shower has become more prevalent. Make sure that none of your tiles are loose, cracked or missing. If there are a few that are looking a bit worse for wear head off in search of replacement tiles and spend a morning refastening or applying the new tiles with a good quality tile adhesive. It will make the world of difference.
Bathroom: Small bathrooms can be transformed simply by being repainted in a lighter, cleaner colour. Don't forget to inspect the sealant around your bath while you're in there. Peeling silicone makes a bathroom look shabby and a little dirtier than it actually is. Reapplying sealant is quick and easy, but just make sure that you have removed all of the old silicone and cleaned the area well before you reapply.
Interior Walls: Spend some time examining the walls in your home, looking out for cracks, paint chips and holes. Clean the area well and use a Medal's Crack Filler to repair the area. You can then touch up the repair job with a quick paint - just be sure to use the exact same colour that was on the wall beforehand. A good clean can also do wonders for the appearance of your walls. Medal's Sugar Soap is a mild but strong cleaner that has been specifically developed to remove dirt, wax, grease and grime from painted surfaces.
A Deep Clean: Integral to ensuring that your home is ready for an influx of guests is the dreaded deep clean. Spend some time shampooing carpets, scrubbing tiles, dusting, vacuuming and polishing.
While we know that you want to make a great impression, remember that your family and friends are there to visit you and not to inspect your home - so try not to get too worked up and enjoy the holidays!
